THE local government of Mabalacat City has joined the fight against another virus, the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV).

The Mabalacat City Primary HIV Care Clinic, under the City Health Office, is spearheading the programs in line with the observance of 33rd World Aids Day, themed "Ending HIV Epidemic: Equitable Access, Everyone's Voice."

The local HIV care clinic stated that this is an opportunity for the people to unite in the fight against HIV.

It added that this is also a way to show support to the people living with the virus and commemorate those who have died from an acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (Aids)-related illness.

The clinic has lined up several activities in connection with the celebration of World Aids Day.

These include the showing of advocacy video and actual talk on HIV 101 and services via Facebook social media starting December 1.

It also announced the holding of a caravan on HIV awareness and testing at the Dau Barangay Covered Court in Samsonville Subdivision on December 3.

Another HIV awareness and testing will be hosted by the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community at the covered court of Barangay Mamatitang, Mabalacat City.

The city's Rural Health Unit urged the people to support the campaign to prevent the spread of HIV.

"Mabalaquenos, let us end HIV pandemic together," the Primary HIV Care Clinic stated.

HIV is a virus that attacks the body's immune system. If HIV is not treated, it can lead to Aids.

In 2019, an estimated 97,000 people are living with HIV in the Philippines.
