Mayor: Angeles City to install bike lanes

Reynaldo G. Navales

ANGELES City Mayor Carmelo "Pogi" Lazatin Jr. has ordered the construction of bike lanes in a bid to promote Angeles as a "bike-friendly" city.

The mayor said the use of bicycles will also ease traffic by allowing residents to use an alternative mode of transportation.

The local chief executive has instructed the City Engineer's Office headed by Engineer Donato Dizon to conduct an initial ocular of the city’s main roads to determine the best areas to install the said bike pathways.

“Ang instructions ni Mayor Lazatin both national and city roads ay dapat magkaroon ng bike lane,” Dizon said.

The project aims to lessen the traffic in the city by encouraging residents to take up biking as a cheaper and healthier mode of transportation.

The installation of bike lanes is also in line with the city government’s programs for the environment, according to Lazatin’s Chief Adviser IC Calaguas.

Bicycles have been very useful for frontliners since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic.
