APALIT -- In an aim to uplift the quality of education for the youth, returning Mayor Oscar Tetangco, Jr. vowed to bring in an extension of the Don Honorio Ventura State University (DHVSU) if elected anew in the coming 2019 midterm polls.

Speaking before his allies and supporters, Tetangco said that the planned establishment of the DHVSU satellite campus in Apalit town will be part of his extensive political agenda once he reclaims the local chief executive post.

“I am in talks with the officials of DHVSU and I am optimistic that our request will be granted as soon as I assume the mayoralty post. As of now, they are just asking for a two-hectare property that is strategic where they can put up and develop a campus,” he said.

If granted, DHVSU will be the public first tertiary school to be established in Apalit town and can also accommodate residents from nearby San Simon, Macabebe and Masantol towns, Tetangco said.

Since tuition fee in state universities is already free under the Universal Access to Quality Tertiary Education law, Tetangco said the local government will provide assistance for other necessary needs of students such as allowances and cost for project-making.

“Since I was a first-termer mayor, I had already been committed in providing quality but free education to our Apaliteño students through scholarship programs and development of public schools, and it was sustained and even expanded by Mayor Peter Nucom during his term. And this 2019, we can assure them of the same commitment,” he said.
