CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- Some 21 barangays in Pampanga’s coastal town of Masantol were flooded after a series of monsoon rains and high tide just before the weekend according to the Pampanga Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO).

The PDRRMO reported that at least a foot-high floodwater was recorded in the said flooded barangays.

While strong rains have stopped this weekend, the PDRRMO is still calling on local disaster response and monitoring units to be on a constant vigilance as more rains are expected this coming week.

Tropical Storm Ineng (international name Bailu) moved farther away from the country over the weekend. However, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), said a low-pressure area was spotted east northeast of Guiuan, Eastern Samar is expected to develop into a tropical depression within 12 hours, said the state weather bureau.

As of 10 a.m. Monday, August 26, the weather disturbance was estimated at 675 kilometers east northeast of Guiuan, Pagasa said.

It will be named “Jenny” once it develops into a tropical depression and Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal Number 1 will be immediately raised over the eastern sections of Luzon and Visayas.

Pagasa advised the public and disaster risk reduction and management offices concerned to take precautionary measures and to monitor for updates. (SunStar Philippines)
