PAMPANGA High School (PHS) has been listed among the top 20 performing schools in reading worldwide.

PHS garnered a score of 377.71 in the 2018 Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA), an international standardized assessment that measures 15-year-old students in reading, math and science literacy every three years.

The 2018 PISA’s focus subject was reading where PHS was one of the randomly-selected schools in the region.

Some 42 students, randomly selected from the list of Grade 10 students, were convened in two rooms with computers and took the online examination.

On December 3, 2019, the Organization for Economic Cooperation & Development (OECD) released the 2018 PISA results which showed PHS, along with Pasig Science High School, Baguio High School and other schools in the country, posting a high score.

Remedios Sitchon, Chief Education Supervisor (Curriculum Implementation Division), congratulated the PHS and all San Fernando schools, teachers and school heads for the great performance.

The officer also thanked City Mayor Edwin “EdSa” Santiago.

“With a grateful heart, we thank the City Mayor for the continuous support extended to the education system thru [Special Education Fund]-funded PAPS for our students, teachers and school heads. Together let us all double our efforts to achieve more and aim high,” Sitchon said.

Santiago has been strengthening the city’s education system thru programs and projects for the benefits of both the students and teachers.

The mayor is known for his educational advocacy, establishing the Early Childhood Care and Development (ECCD) and, just recently, inaugurating the new Department of Education Bulding in the civic center – both intended to improve the learning environment of the students.

The mayor also gives support and assistance to the year-round seminars, forums, and training for teachers as part of their “upskilling” and “reskilling”.

Santiago believes these initiatives, are key factors in paving the way of youth to success.

“Educating the educators is one important thing we should be doing. Kapag gusto nating patibayin ang academic foundation ng ating mga estudyante, we should start from retooling and upskilling our teachers. In that way, the same or even higher quality of knowledge and skills will be taught to our youth,” he said. (PR)
