PRIMEWATER Guagua-Guagua Water District (GWD) recently held a groundbreaking ceremony for the newly-established Source Development at Dalan Bayu, Barangay San Matias, Guagua town.

The project’s main objective is to provide potable and 24/7 water supply in the said barangay and its nearby areas.

Notable attendees for the said event include Guagua Mayor Dante Torres, barangay councilor Leonardo Sula (on behalf of the barangay captain and barangay council), the GWD board of directors, GWD general manager Eduardo Rodriguez, PrimeWater’s senior consultants Mr. Ed De Mayo and Engr. Olimpio Gusi, PrimeWater Pambaza cluster head Marnellie Bautista, and various PrimeWater branch managers including Engr. Lodee Guanlao of Lubao, Malou Galvez of Mabalacat, Dendrige Ponio of Porac, and Donna Mae Perez of Guagua.

Unserved areas within the barangay will now be catered through the pipelaying of transmission and distribution lines from this project. This is just one of the many projects that will be implemented as part of the partnership’s commitment in providing reliable and quality water supply and services to its concessionaires. (PR)

WHERE’S THE WATER? Water is sparse at the Jaclupan wellfield in Talisay City in this photo provided by the Metropolitan Cebu Water District (MCWD) on Friday, April 26, 2024. Completed in 1998, MCWD’s Jaclupan facility, officially known as the Mananga Phase I Project, catches, impounds and pumps out around 30,000 cubic meters of water per day under normal circumstances. However, on Friday, MCWD spokesperson Minerva Gerodias said the facility’s daily production had plummeted to 8,000 cubic meters per day, or just about a quarter of its normal capacity, as Cebu grapples with the effects of the drought caused by the El Niño phenomenon, which is expected to persist until the end of May. The facility supplies water to consumers in Talisay City and Cebu City. /
