THE City Government of San Fernando, headed by Mayor Edwin Santiago, and the Alay Lakad Foundation Inc., led by its president Engr. Ruben Sy, signed on Tuesday, February 22, a memorandum of agreement granting a P1 million funding for this year's Alay Lakad or "walk for a cause," which provides educational assistance to out-of-school youth.

The fund will help the foundation support 65 new scholars from all the barangays in the city with financial and educational assistance until they finish college.

The beneficiaries who will qualify for the scholarship will be rendering community service to the foundation and City Social Welfare and Development Office to “help them engage in community, social, and economic development.”

After the agreement signing, the City Government will release the first half of the fund before first semester of academic year 2022-2023 begins. The remaining half will be released before second semester.

Since 1998, the Alay Lakad Foundation Inc. has been holding annual “walk for a cause” that already sent hundreds of scholars – most of whom were out-of-school youth—to school with funding sourced from public and private partners.
