THE City Government of San Fernando has started its flood mitigation interventions and other safety measures as the rainy season sets in.

Just before the weekend, several old trees along major thoroughfares, including Capitol Boulevard in Barangay Sto. Niño and Magdalena Street in Barangay San Juan heading towards the provincial government center and San Fernando city proper were trimmed by the City Engineer’s Office.

The areas are two of San Fernando’s busiest roads which motorists from different parts of the city and nearby towns traverse and use daily for business and other economic activities.

City Engineer Anele David said the trimming of the trees is to prevent the branches from falling which might cause untoward incidents and roadblocks, especially during heavy rains.

She said the City Engineer's Office is also encouraging barangays to trim trees within their jurisdiction.

David added that City Government is also conducting year-round declogging and desilting of waterways to avert flooding.

Mayor Edwin Santiago recently told SunStar Pampanga that the local government unit cleaned up major waterways and drainage systems from the upstream portion in Barangay Telabastagan to the downstream heading to maintained channels in Sto. Tomas town. (JTD)
