THE City of San Fernando Water District is continuously conducting a full structural assessment of its water facilities in the city, as it tries to normalize water distribution to all its concessionaires.

The 6.1-magnitude earthquake on Monday, April 22, caused two elevated water tanks in Barangay Maimpis to collapse. The UV-Treatment facility in Barangay Maimpis was also damaged during the earthquake.

General Manager Jorge Gumba said he has ordered the assessment of all

water tanks and to check for loosened braces to prevent collapse.

As of Wednesday, April 24, pumping stations in Barangay Lara and Maimpis are back in operation.

Gumba said water pressure may fluctuate from time to time as workers are doubling efforts to fix damages and assess the structural integrity of the water utility's facilities.

Gumba also clarified that affected water tanks in Pueblo de Oro and Covelandia subdivisions are not under the management of the water utility.

Gumba assured 40,000 concessionaires of sufficient water supply amid recurring earthquakes and the ongoing El Niño phenomenon.

Gumba said the water district has started programs to check on their service lines for efficiency and leakage problems.

PrimeWater, the water district's joint venture partner, has also mobilized teams to assess and fix facilities of the water district.
