STO. TOMAS -- A senior high school teacher (SHS) assigned at San Matias National High School is set to represent the region in the upcoming national awarding for the Search for the Most Outstanding Teachers.

Leonilo Capulo secured the ticket to the national convention after being hailed as the Top 1 Most Outstanding Teacher in the division level and second in the regional level during the 2018 PRAISE Gawad Patnugot awarding ceremony.

Capulo has been in the academe for 20 years and he started as member of the ministry sectors in different schools such as Don Bosco Technological College-Mandaluyong, La Salle-Roxas, and Immaculate Heart of Mary College in Paranaque City, until he decided to be part the Department of Education as SHS teacher.

As educator, Capulo said he promoted research-based innovation in his school, as well as in his division, through his position as Research Coordinator which served as one of the basis for recognition.

Capulo is also an advocate of spiritual formation among his students and fellow educators, and the ecobricking program, an environment-friendly method which creates materials and infrastructures through recycled plastic bottles.

The outstanding teacher also authored a book entitled Beyond the Four Corners which tackled education that is not confined inside the classrooms and promote community awareness.

Asked on his advice to fellow teachers who aspires to have the same recognition, Capulo said: “Just like St. John Bosco said, education is a matter of the heart so just put your heart in what you do and everything will fall into place. Just love what you do.”
