THE City Government of San Fernando on Thursday, May 5, paid tribute to teachers by installing and unveiling a marker at the City Schools Division Office located at the Civic Center that honors the heroism and legacy of Fernandino “hero educator.”

Mayor Edwin Santiago, together with City Schools Superintendent Dr. Imelda Macaspac, City Tourism Officer Ching Pangilinan, and City General Services Officer Engr. Michael Quizon, led the unveiling of the marker.

The unveiling of the marker was also in line with the celebration of this year’s Pyestang Fernandino with a theme “Pámanagumpe kaybat ning Kasakítan kékang Pégsíkápan, San Fernando, Túne kang Syudad ning Kasalpantayánan at Tétagan!”

The marker represents the history and significance of the celebration of the Teachers’ Heroism Day every 30th of January.

This also explains the mural sculpture of “Ding Bayaning Talaturu,” which was unveiled during the 20th cityhood anniversary of the capital city.

The artwork symbolizes the teachers’ heroism on January 30, 1980, when some 500 public school teachers of San Fernando, Pampanga suffered and agonized for many hours at the municipal hall, protecting the sanctity of the ballots cast in the local elections held on that day. (JTD)
