Underaged guard nabbed for stealing from workplace

APALIT police recently arrested an underaged security guard for breaking, entering and stealing from the mall he was assigned to secure.

The suspect, who is only 17 years old, was caught on closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera ransacking the personal belongings kept inside the office and taking around P26,000 cash from the cash registers of 588 Shopping Mall located in Barangay Sulipan here recently.

Apalit chief of police Superintendent Roland Agohob said the mall management discovered the crime next morning.

The door leading to the main office as well as cash registers 2, 3 and 4 of the department store section had been destroyed and opened.

Footage from the surveillance camera showed the suspect looting the content of the cash registers, some watches and a laptop. The suspect also allegedly destroyed some of the CCTV cameras, Agohob said.

Agohob said the suspect was arrested as soon as he was identified. A minor, whom the suspect asked to keep the loot, including the cash, five watches and a laptop.

The suspect and his cohort are now considered children in conflict with law. They were turned over to the Municipal Social Welfare and Development.
