Limlingan: Meanwhile in Mexico

DP Limlingan

INCUMBENT mayor of Mexico town Teddy Tumang is all set waging for his bid to finish his third and final term at the municipal hall. His contender is Vice Mayor Jonathan Pangan who is ending his three-term and is making a face-off with Tumang. A third candidate also surfaced in the person of former mayor Ernesto Punzalan who is making a try to go back to the municipal hall.

Tumang's performance as a veteran public servant is sterling. He has proven his worth as a true leader and provider for Mexicanos. The pandemic was made a challenge he took and successfully overcome with the satisfaction of his constituency.

During the enforcement of stricter lockdowns, displaced workers and businesses affected by the health menace never went hungry because of the countless "ayudas". Other local government units cannot surpass the number of food packs distributed by Tumang.

On infrastructures, there are a great number of kilometers of roads concreted. Several bridges were erected, giving way to progress through more accessibility especially to farmers and businessmen. Soon, more and more planned infrastructure projects will be constructed as per development plan.

Pangan is a successful dentist by profession. He is likewise a veteran in the field of public service and an expert in local legislation. Being so, he has acquired political supporters and bailiwicks in the town.

Doc's wife is a lawyer and is now running for councilor. She is a newbie in the field of politics who would want to try public service as a lawmaker. I am sure she has fresh ideas for new ordinances in the town.

Last on the list is another veteran politician who carved his name "Tigas" in local politics. During his terms as a mayor then, Ernesto Punzalan has introduced "asenso" to Mexico to which his successor to the throne has continued and even overwhelmingly surpassed.

Today he is trying his luck to make a comeback although he aged a bit as compared to when he was hailed as a "barako" mayor. His son, Christopher, fondly called as "Bombing" is the barangay captain of Pandacaqui, a vote-rich barangay in the town. This might or not help his old man's candidacy.

Mexico is a very progressive municipality which is now on the brink of becoming a city. Its local officials are among the reasons for its economic boom. Its location, adjacent to the capital town of the province is a contributory factor to growth and development.

By the way, there are three guys and a lady who are seeking for the vice-mayoralty position. Former vice-mayor and mayor Roy Manalastas, councilors Ruding Gonzales, Ludet Sicat and Perry Dizon are all hopefuls to become the municipal government's deputy.

All four are supporting Tumang.

WHERE’S THE WATER? Water is sparse at the Jaclupan wellfield in Talisay City in this photo provided by the Metropolitan Cebu Water District (MCWD) on Friday, April 26, 2024. Completed in 1998, MCWD’s Jaclupan facility, officially known as the Mananga Phase I Project, catches, impounds and pumps out around 30,000 cubic meters of water per day under normal circumstances. However, on Friday, MCWD spokesperson Minerva Gerodias said the facility’s daily production had plummeted to 8,000 cubic meters per day, or just about a quarter of its normal capacity, as Cebu grapples with the effects of the drought caused by the El Niño phenomenon, which is expected to persist until the end of May. The facility supplies water to consumers in Talisay City and Cebu City. /
