BUENAVISTA, Bohol - The town mayor of Buenavista in the province of Bohol was shot dead by gunmen inside a cockpit arena in Barangay Asinan, Buenavista, Bohol Sunday afternoon, May 27.

Police Chief Inspector Rolly Lauron, the town's chief of police, said that the gunmen went inside the cockpit area and shot Mayor Ronald Lowell 'Sampol' Tirol in the head.

An empty shell from a caliber .45 pistol was recovered from the scene.

A hot pursuit operation is being conducted to track down the assailants who fled onboard a motorcycle.
