3 NPA rebels yield in Northern Samar

THREE alleged members of the New People’s Army (NPA) voluntarily surrendered in Lavezares, Northern Samar Wednesday, February 24, 2021.

Operating unit of 803rd Mobile Company-Regional Mobile Force Battalion led by Captain Leslie Lalic, under the supervision of Lieutenant Colonel Jose Roy Torrechilla, said the former rebels also turned in an M16 rifle, colt 45, rifle grenade and several ammunition.

The surrenderers were identified as alias Diego, 23; alias Ningning, 52; and alias Kanor, 24.

In an information released by the Police Regional Office-Eastern Visayas, the surrenderers were identified as former members of sub-regional committee Emporium, Sesame and Levox, which are operating in the region.

Eastern Visayas, particularly the Samar Island, remained a hotbed of insurgency with the continued presence of the NPA, which has been listed as a terrorist organization by the United States, European Union, United Kingdom, Canada, New Zealand and Australia. (SunStar Philippines)
