Army chases rebels in Southern Leyte town

MILITARY personnel have launched a hot pursuit operation against suspected rebels following an encounter in Saint Bernard, Southern Leyte, the army’s spokesperson in Eastern Visayas said Wednesday, February 24, 2021.

Captain Reynaldo Aragones Jr., chief of the Division Public Affairs Office of the Philippine Army's 8th Infantry Division based in Catbalogan City, said they are still waiting for the progress report of the operation.

Initial report said the government troops encountered more or less five rebels while they were conducting focused military operation at the vicinity of the Old Guinsaugun, Saint Bernard on Wednesday.

The 10-minute firefight resulted in the recovery of one hand grenade, two live ammunition of M203, and one rifle grenade, according to the report.
