Calbayog barangay chairman escapes shooting uninjured

A 40-YEAR-OLD barangay captain escaped uninjured from a shooting attack in P4, Barangay Capoocan, Calbayog City Saturday, February 20, 2021.

Police identified the victim as Matias Lepata Portugaliza, married, and barangay chairman of the said barangay in the city.

Initial investigation disclosed that while the victim was traversing from Justice Building in Calbayog onboard his motorcycle around 10:30 a.m. Saturday, unidentified gunmen suddenly appeared and shot the victim with the use of an unknown caliber of firearm.

The victim was able to escape from his attacker and continuously drove his motorcycle until he reached his residence.

The motor-riding suspects fled towards the south direction, according to the police.

Authorities are investigating the incident. (SunStar Philippines)
