Calbayog village councilor shot dead

A SERIES of shootings in Calbayog City, Samar resulted in the death of one person Wednesday, May 8.

Police identified the victim as Benjamine Mayran, 57, married, a village councilor of P-2, Barangay Cagbilwang, Calbayog City.

Police said Mayran was on his way to Calbayog on board a motorcycle when two unidentified motorcycle-riding gunmen shot him dead.

The incident happened around 8:45 a.m. Wednesday in Barangay Poblacion, Oquendo District.

Around 11:30 a.m., another shooting transpired at the residence of barangay captain Olimpio Prasmo, Susan Salomon and Raul Cantiga of Barangay Bogtong, approximately 40 kilometers away from the city police station.

Initial investigation revealed that armed men strafed the houses of the victims. The gunmen positioned themselves at the hilly portion of the house of Prasmo.

No casualty was reported though, said police.

The Calbayog City police are conducting a hot pursuit operation against the gunmen. (SunStar Philippines)
