Landslide kills 3 in Southern Leyte

RESCUE workers recovered three bodies from the debris of a landslide in Pintuyan, Southern Leyte Friday, July 31, 2020.

Police identified the victims as Ruben Guibao, 20, single, laborer, and a resident of Barangay Tampoong, Sogod, Southern Leyte; Adelberto Gales Jr., 35, single, laborer, and a resident of Barangay PD Equipilag, Pintuyan; and Joel Maique, 43, married, and a resident of Barangay Canlawis, Pintuyan.

Initial investigation disclosed the victims were quarrying at the side of the dried river in Barangay Canlawis when the landslide triggered by intermittent rain happened at about 3:30 p.m. Friday.

The victims were brought to Pintuyan District Hospital for immediate medical attention but were declared dead on arrival by Dr. Jude Aspirin, the attending physician

Pintuyan Municipal Police Station, headed by Lieutenant Omar Bagasbas, is investigating the incident. (SunStar Philippines)
