Lightning kills farmer, hurts 4 in Leyte

A FARMER was killed, while four others were injured after a lightning hit them in San Miguel, Leyte Wednesday, June 26.

The fatality was identified as Rexie Purazo, 35, who was directly hit by the lightning around 11:20 p.m. in Sitio Malipuron, Barangay Guinciaman in San Miguel.

Injured were Erlinda Solayao, 60; Vima Antoni, 59; Marilyn Erandio, 42; and Zaldy Antoni, 20.

Initial investigation revealed that the victims were planting rice when they were hit by the lightning.

Purazo was rushed to the Rural Health Unit of San Miguel but was declared dead-on-arrival by Dr. Michelle Joy Sanchez, attending physician.

The other four victims were brought to Eastern Visayas Medical Center in Tacloban City for further medical attention. (SunStar Philippines)
