Man hangs self after Covid lockdown barred his marriage plan

A 20-YEAR-OLD construction worker died in an apparent suicide after his marriage plan was hindered due to the lockdown brought by the coronavirus disease (Covid-19).

The victim’s family found the lifeless body with nylon rope wrapped around the man’s neck hanging from the wooden beam of their house in Javier, Leyte, around 5:25 p.m. Monday, October 25, 2021.

Police said the victim had an intimate relationship with someone while working at a construction site in Mambajao, Camiguin.

According to initial reports, the victim wanted to marry and bring his girlfriend to Leyte but was barred due to the current travel restrictions, which caused him depression.

Police are investigating the incident.
