1 arrested, P1-M smuggled cigarettes seized

AUTHORITIES have arrested one person and seized some P1 million worth of contrabands in an intelligence-driven anti-smuggling operation in the province of Zamboanga del Sur, the police reported Saturday, September 24, 2022.

Police Colonel Richarch Verceles, operations chief of the Area Police Command-Western Mindanao, identified the arrested person as Hadzmir Dansahan Abdul, 36, of Sitio Seaside in Baliwasan village, Zamboanga City.

Verceles said Abdul was arrested around 4 p.m. Saturday, September 24, in Purok Bayanihan in Campo 4 village, Ramon Magsaysay, Zamboanga del Sur.

Verceles said Abdul was caught driving a van loaded with 866 master cases of smuggled cigarettes worth P1 million following a brief chase at Purok Bayanihan Campo 4 village, Ramon Magsaysay.

He said Abdul failed to present any documents of his cargo, thus, he was arrested and the cigarettes confiscated.

Verceles said Abdul, the vehicle and confiscated items were brought to Ramon Magsaysay Municipal Police Station for documentation and later turned over to the custody of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group for proper disposition. (SunStar Zamboanga)
