1 dies, 1 hurt in highway accident

A TRUCKMAN died while another was injured in a highway accident in the province of Zamboanga del Sur, the police reported Monday, May 17.

Police Major Shellamie Chang, Police regional Office-Zamboanga Peninsula information officer, identified the fatality as Robert Sajulga, 23, while wounded was John Terrence Manlegro, 27.

Chang said the two victims were aboard a cargo van driven by Julius Impis, 32, that fell off the national highway around 2 p.m. Sunday in Lower Pulacan village, Labangan, Zamboanga del Sur.

Investigation showed the two were injured when the van they were riding fell off the road after Impis lost control of the steering wheel when he overtook on another vehicle while traversing the national highway of Labangan town bound to Ozamiz City.

But Chang said Sajulga was pronounced dead on arrival by the attending physician at the Manupac hospital while Manlegro was admitted for treatment.

She said Impis, who was unscathed, and the vehicle were taken to the Labangan Municipal Police Station. (SunStar Zamboanga)
