1 dies, 4 injured in bolo attack

ONE person was killed while four others, including an 11-year-old girl, were wounded when a neighbor had gone berserk in a remote village in Zamboanga del Norte province, the police said Thursday, September 27.

Chief Inspector Helen Galvez, Police Regional Office-Zamboanga Peninsula information officer, identified the fatality as Anselmo Angas, 50.

Wounded were Angas’ wife, Epin, 30, and daughter, Maricel, 11 and two other relatives namely Jayson Piyok, 19 and his younger brother, Sammy, 18.

Galvez said the suspect was identified as Primo Romaga, 35, who was arrested by the police after the incident around 11 p.m. Tuesday at Sitio Balokangon in Guibo village, Siayan.

She said investigation showed that Romaga, armed with a bolo, barged into the house of Sammy and without provocation hacked the victim and his brother, Jayson.

The two brothers suffered injuries but managed to escape and were taken by relatives to the Siayan Diagnostic Center for treatment, Galvez added.

She said the suspect then barged into the house of the Angas family and hacked the occupants, one after the other.

The information officer said Anselmo died while his wife and daughter survived although wounded. They were also taken to the Siayan Diagnostic Center.

She said Romaga was arrested and detained by the responding policemen while appropriate charges are set to be filed against him. (SunStar Philippines)
