1 nabbed, P700,000 smuggled cigarettes seized

THE police have arrested one person when they intercepted a shipment of some P700,000 worth of smuggled cigarettes in the province of Zamboanga Sibugay, an official said Tuesday, March 3.

Police Major Helen Galvez, Police Regional Office-Zamboanga Peninsula information officer, identified the arrested person as Fel Maulod Andan, 42, a resident of Bangkerohan, Ipil, the capital of Zamboanga Sibugay.

Galvez said Andan was arrested by policemen manning a checkpoint around 9:32 p.m. Monday in Baluran Village, Tungawan, Zamboanga Sibugay.

She said Andan was caught driving a passenger van loaded with 40 master cases of smuggled cigarettes with an estimated worth of P700,000.

The policemen established the checkpoint following receipt of report that a shipment of smuggled cigarettes is set to take place in Baluran, Tungawan, Galvez added.

She said Andan and the confiscated smuggled cigarettes were placed in police custody for proper disposition. (SunStar Zamboanga)
