1ID fetes 3 gallant troopers

THE Army’s 1st Infantry Division (ID) has awarded medals to three soldiers for gallantry against the Dawlah Islamiya-Maute Group (DI-MG) in Lanao del Sur.

Major General Generoso Ponio, 1ID commander, led the awarding of medals Friday, April 29, at Camp Major Cesar Sang-an Station Hospital in Labangan, Zamboanga del Sur.

The recipients of the Wounded Personnel Medal (WPM) were Private First Class Jayson Dayhop and Private Genes Mike Rellon of the 5th and 55th Infantry Battalions (IB), respectively.

They were wounded in a combat operation against some 40 DI-MG terrorists on March 1 in Ilalag village, Maguing, Lanao del Sur.

The third awardee is Private Jo Marie Palarion of the 5IB, who sustained wounds during a combat operation against some 30 DI-MG terrorists on Wednesday, April 27, in Ragayan village, Butig, Lanao del Sur.

The WPM is awarded to members of and civilians employed by the Armed Forces of the Philippines who are injured in combat with the enemy

The three medal recipients also received grocery items and financial support from the 1ID.

Meanwhile, Ponio shared his experiences in combat operations with the three wounded soldiers, and he encouraged them to help themselves recover.

Ponio told the three soldiers that what happened to them is part of the military profession. (SunStar Zamboanga)
