TWO supporters of the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) have surrendered to authorities in Basilan amid the focused military operations launched by Joint Task Force Basilan against the bandits.

Colonel Gerry Besana, Western Mindanao Command (Westmincom) information officer, identified the surrenderers as Jolmy Ambihal Pingli and Roma Pawaki Taspi, who surrendered in the towns of Ungkaya Pukan and Hadji Mohammad Ajul, respectively, to the Army’s 18th Infantry Battalion.

Besana said Pingli turned over a Garand rifle while Tapsi, an M-203 grenade launcher.

The two Abu Sayyaf supporters surrendered following the active collaboration of village officials and Joint Task Force Basilan against terrorism in the province, Besana said.

Lieutenant General Arnel Dela Vega, Westmincom chief, said the Abu Sayyaf in Basilan “is gradually losing mass support propelled by our incessant operations and our collaboration with the local government and peace partners.” (Bong Garcia)
