2 died, 1 hurt in motorcycle-truck collision

TWO people died while another was injured in a head-on collision between a motorcycle and a military truck in a west coast village in Zamboanga City, the police reported Monday, June 5, 2023.

Police Colonel Alexander Lorenzo, Zamboanga City Police Office director, said the incident happened around 4:45 p.m. Sunday, June 4, in Sinubong village.

Lorenzo identified the fatalities as Randy Rico, 41, and Arcel Vertuez, 40. Wounded was Jaycee Ramos, 25.

Lorenzo said investigation showed the victims were aboard a motorcycle driven by Rico on the way to Talisayan village coming from Pamucutan village when they overshot on a curve road and collided head-on with an incoming truck of the Philippine Marines.

Rico and Vertudez died on the spot due to the impact of collision while Ramos was injured and rushed to the hospital by the ambulance of the Philippine Coast Guard stationed nearby.

The military truck driven by Omar Ekong, 31, a member of the Philippine Marines, was traveling to Sinubong village coming from Talisayan village at the time of the incident.

Ekong was unscathed during the incident. (SunStar Zamboanga)
