2 hurt in Zamboanga Sibugay shootout

TWO persons, including a wanted person, were injured as a shootout ensued in a law enforcement operation in the province of Zamboanga Sibugay, the police reported Saturday, May 22, 2021.

Wounded were Wahabbin Abdulhari, 48, and his wife, Rhaida, according to Police Brigadier General Ronaldo Genaro Ylagan, Police Regional Office-Zamboanga Peninsula director.

Ylagan said they were injured in a shootout that ensued around 5:30 a.m. Friday in Purok A in Canacan village, Kabasalan, Zamboanga Sibugay province.

He said the shootout broke out when Abdulhari opened fire but missed when the policemen were about to serve an arrest warrant against him.

Ylagan said policemen returned fire, hitting both Abdulhari and his wife on their legs. They were admitted to the district hospital of Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay.

He said Abdulhari had a standing warrant of arrest for the crime of two-count attempted murder with P24,000 recommended bail dated September 1, 2010, issued by the court of Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay.

Abdulhari will be facing additional charges, as cases for attempted murder and violation of Republic Act 10591 otherwise known as the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act will be filed against him. (SunStar Zamboanga)
