2 nabbed, P10,000 smuggled cigarettes seized

TWO persons were arrested, while P10,000 worth of smuggled cigarettes were seized in law enforcement operation in the province of Zamboanga del Sur, the police reported Thursday, May 6, 2021.

Police Major Shellamie Chang, newly-installed Police Regional Office-Zamboanga Peninsula information officer, identified the arrested suspects as Julieto Flores Estrada, 20; and Ricardo Bariga Maniego, 26.

Chang said they were arrested in an anti-smuggling operation around 2:50 p.m. Wednesday in Sitio Liangan in Kabatan village, Vincenzo Sagun, Zamboanga del Sur.

Recovered from the possession of the two were 51 reams of assorted smuggled cigarettes with estimated market value of P10,000.

The suspects and the confiscated smuggled cigarettes were brought to Vincenzo Sagun Municipal Police Station, while an appropriate charge is set to be filed against them. (SunStar Zamboanga)
