VINTA sails of all shapes, colors, and sizes will unfurl at the R.T. Lim Boulevard for the much-anticipated Regatta de Zamboanga 2019 on Sunday, October 6.

Huge crowds of residents as well as domestic and international visitors are expected to converge at the Boulevard for the early morning event, which, for this year, will have 200 participating vintas competing for the top spots.

Mayor Maria Isabelle Climac-Salazar said the vinta race will kick off at 6 a.m. and participating vintas will be divided into groups to compete in several heats for the fastest time in completing the vinta race course.

Salazar said the winning vintas will receive plaques and cash prizes of P15,000 for first place, P12,000 for second place, P10,000 for third place, P7,000 and P5,000 for fourth and fifth places, respectively.

She said that non-winning vintas will receive consolation prizes.

A special prize of P3, 000 will also be given for the best vinta design.

The mayor said the Regatta de Zamboanga will be followed immediately by the Wow Sardinas! Grand Boodle Fight, spearheaded by the local government together with the different sardine companies in Zamboanga City.

She added that at 11 a.m., the stretch of R.T. Lim Boulevard will be the site of a sardine boodle fight, free and open to all residents and visitors. (SunStar Philippines)
