SEVENTY-THREE nonagenarians and octogenarians of Zamboanga City have received cash incentives from the City Government.

Mayor John Dalipe said Sunday, January 22, that the grant of cash incentives to nonagenarians and octogenarians is provided under Ordinance 539 aimed to help senior citizens fund their basic needs, especially maintenance medicines.

Dalipe did not release the identities of the recipients of cash incentives except to say they are from the villages of Arena Blanco, Boalan, Divisoria, Guiwan, Lumayang, Lumbangan, Lunzuran, Mampang, Putik, Talon-Talon, Tetuan, and Tugbungan.

Dalipe said that under Ordinance 539, each of the nonagenarians (90 to 99 years old) is entitled to a P20,000 cash incentive while octogenarians (80 to 89 years old) get P10,000.

Ma. Socorro Rojas, City Social Welfare and Development Office chief, said her personnel along with that of the City Treasurer’s Office and City Mayor’s Office facilitated the distribution of the cash incentives either through house-to-house visits or through a gathering at the village hall.

Meanwhile, Rojas said that some 2,000 nonagenarians and octogenarians all over the city are expected to receive cash incentives. (SunStar Zamboanga)
