THE City Health Office (CHO) disclosed that 22 children have died due to infection with coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) in Zamboanga City since the start of the pandemic last year.

Dr. Dulce Amor Miravite, CHO head, said most of the children who died of Covid-19 infection belong to the age group of one day to 11 months with seven mortalities.

Following second are those who belong to the 1-year-old to 5-year-old age group with six mortalities, according to Miravite.

The rest of the fatalities belong to the age groups of six years to 10 years old, three; 11 to 15 years old, four; and 16 years old, two.

Meanwhile, Miravite said they are undertaking the necessary preparations for the vaccination of minors against Covid-19.

Malacañang announced on Tuesday, September 28, that President Rodrigo Duterte has approved the vaccination of the general population, including minors against Covid-19 in October.

Miravite said that they will use the database of this city’s immunization program to determine the number of children to be vaccinated against Covid-19.

She said the inoculation of minors against Covid-19 will depend on the guidelines that will be given to them by the Department of Health. (SunStar Zamboanga)

WHERE’S THE WATER? Water is sparse at the Jaclupan wellfield in Talisay City in this photo provided by the Metropolitan Cebu Water District (MCWD) on Friday, April 26, 2024. Completed in 1998, MCWD’s Jaclupan facility, officially known as the Mananga Phase I Project, catches, impounds and pumps out around 30,000 cubic meters of water per day under normal circumstances. However, on Friday, MCWD spokesperson Minerva Gerodias said the facility’s daily production had plummeted to 8,000 cubic meters per day, or just about a quarter of its normal capacity, as Cebu grapples with the effects of the drought caused by the El Niño phenomenon, which is expected to persist until the end of May. The facility supplies water to consumers in Talisay City and Cebu City. /
