PERSONNEL of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) marked the observance of World Wildlife Day (WWD) with the release of a rufous night heron in Zamboanga Sibugay.

The DENR said Monday, March 6, that the Rufous Night-Heron was freed on Friday, March 3, in Pangi village, Ipil, the capital of Zamboanga Sibugay province.

Night herons are named for their habit of feeding between evening and early morning. They are opportunistic feeders with a diverse diet.

The WWD is celebrated every March 3. This year’s WWD celebration is anchored on the theme “Partnerships for Wildlife Conservation.”

WWD is an annual event aimed at raising awareness about the world’s wild animals and plants, the threats to their survival, and their benefits to people and the planet. (SunStar Zamboanga)
