ISIS-inspired Dawlah Islamiya supporter arrested

AUTHORITIES have arrested a supporter of the Islamic State for Iraq and Syria (Isis)-inspired Dawlah Islamiya-Maute Group (DI-MG) in the province of Lanao del Sur, the police reported Saturday.

Police Colonel Richard Verceles, operations chief of the Area Police Command-Western Mindanao, identified the arrested DI-MG supporter as Kimal Sumayan, 47.

Verceles said that Sumayan was arrested in a law enforcement operation by way of service of warrant of arrest around 3 a.m. Friday, July 22, in Linao village, Saguiaran, Lanao del Sur.

Verceles said that Sumayan has a standing warrant of arrest for the crime of homicide with P120,000 recommended bail dated December 21, 2020, issued by the court of Marawi City, Lanao del Sur.

He said Sumayan was involved in contract killing (gun-for-hire) and other illegal activities in the town of Saguiaran and nearby municipalities.

Verceles said that the arresting team recovered a caliber .38 revolver with ammunition from the possession of Sumayan.

He said the suspect was placed under the custody of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group for proper disposition. (SunStar Zamboanga)
