THE campaign of the Western Mindanao Command (Wesmincom) against the proliferation of loose firearms continue to yield positive results, officials said.

On Sunday, September 15, three high-powered firearms were surrendered by the residents to the Army’s 49th Infantry Battalion in the village of Sundig, Butig, Lanao del Sur.

The surrender of the firearms consisting of an M-14 Sniper rifle, one M-79 launcher and one M-203 grenade launcher were facilitated by Butig town Councilor Saiben Panolong and Sundig Village Chief Abolan Macatbar.

“The surrender of firearms highlights the support of the Local Government Unit of Butig town in the AFP’s (Armed Forces of the Philippines’) campaign against loose firearms,” said Brigadier General Romeo Brawner, Jr., Army’s 103rd Infantry Brigade commander.

Lieutenant General Cirilito Sobejana, Wesmincom chief, expressed his sincerest gratitude to the local government units and the civilian community for their untiring support to the campaign against loose firearms.

“With your support in all our endeavors, peace and development will soon be attained,” Sobejana added. (SunStar Philippines)
