Motorcycle gunmen kill militiaman

A MILITIAMAN was killed in a gun attack by motorcycle-riding gunmen in San Jose Gusu village, Zamboanga City, the police said Tuesday, January 8.

Chief Inspector Helen Galvez, Police Regional Office-Zamboanga Peninsula information officer, said the incident happened around 8:45 p.m. Monday at Martha Drive in San Jose Gusu village.

Galvez identified the victim as Jerry Banaan, a militiaman assigned at the miltia detachment in Recodo village, this city.

She said investigation showed that Banaan parked his motorcycle in a dimly-lit area of Martha Drive around 8:20 p.m. Monday. Minutes later, two men riding on a motorcycle arrived, repeatedly shot the victim and fled towards the west coast area.

The police official said Banaan was rushed to the hospital and expired while under medical treatment.

She said six spent shells were recovered from the crime scene.
