Motorcycle rider dies in highway crash

A MOTORCYCLE rider died in a highway crash in the province of Zamboanga del Norte, the police reported Tuesday, January 5.

Police Captain Edwin Duco, Police Regional Office-Zamboanga Peninsula information officer, said the incident happened around 6:20 p.m. Monday, January 4, along the national highway in Lower San Juan village, Sergio Osmeña, Zamboanga del Norte.

Duco identified the victim as Alipio Acopiado Caipang, 33, who was believed to be under the influence of liquor at the time of the accident.

Duco said that Caipang crashed on a highway barrier when he lost control of the steering bar after he encroached the other lane while driving a motorcycle.

Caipang sustained multiple injuries and was rushed to the hospital for treatment but was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician. (SunStar Zamboanga)
