THE Philippine Red Cross (PRC)-Zamboanga Chapter on Sunday, July 29, distributed relief assistance to the thousands of fire victims in a west coast village of this city.

The beneficiaries of the relief aid were the fire victims of Purok 5, Labuan village.

First district Representative Celso Lobregat, who led the outreach mission as PRC governor, said the distribution of the relief assistance is just an initial aid for the fire victim in Labuan.

“The PRC will return here in the next few days to bring more relief assistance,” added Lobregat, whose office has also provided cash assistance.

Labuan Village Chief Ronald Maravilla said the relief assistance is of big help to the fire victims, especially those who failed to save all their belongings.

“We are happy the PRC is here with us today proving relief aid to the families displaced by the fire,” Maravilla added.

The distribution of the relief aid was coupled with a medical outreach mission conducted by the regional office of the Department of Health (DOH).

Superintendent Jhufel Brañanola earlier said the fire that happened on July 22 razed to the ground 400 houses in Purok 5, which is at the coast of Labuan village.

Some of the fire victims are temporarily housed as the school while the others have sought shelter with their relatives in the village. (Bong Garcia/SunStar Philippines)
