AUTHORITIES have arrested a crime syndicate member tagged as one of the suspects in the ambush-slay in 2015 of a town mayor in Zamboanga Sibugay.

Jeprin Hasan alias Hakim Hassan, 45, allegedly a member of Almain Labain crime syndicate, was arrested in a manhunt operation around 2:30 p.m. Saturday, October 27, in Sitio Flamingo in Barangay Malagutay, Zamboanga City.

Chief Inspector Helen Galvez, Police Regional Office Zamboanga Peninsula information officer, said Hasan is also listed as the number one most wanted person in Tungawan and has standing warrants of arrest for: murder, with no recommended bail; frustrated murder, with P200,000 recommended bail; and attempted murder with recommended bail of P120,000.

The warrants were issued by the court in Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay.

Hasan, a resident of Tigpalay in Tungawan, has been tagged as one of those behind the October 12, 2015 ambush and killing of Tungawan Mayor Randy Climaco.

Climaco, who was in his last term of office, had just filed his certificate of candidacy for vice mayor in the 2016 elections when he was ambushed.

The attack wounded Climaco’s six companions, including a cousin who filed his COC for mayor. Others wounded were the vice-mayor, a barangay official, a driver, security escort and Climaco’s party mate.

Galvez said Hasan was also involved in robbery hold-up and extortion in the villages of Tigpalay and Cayamcam in Tungawan.
