Troops overrun NPA camp in MisOr

TWO New People’s Army (NPA) rebels were killed as the government forces have overrun an NPA camp in the hinterlands of Misamis Oriental, the military said Wednesday, June 20.

Brigadier General Franco Nemesio Gacal, Army’s 402nd Infantry Brigade commander, said the camp the troops had overran at 7:20 a.m. Tuesday is located in Abunda village, Magsaysay.

Gacal said the troops from the Army’s 23rd Infantry Battalion launched the security operation following the reported extortion activities by the NPA rebels that resulted to the capture of the camp.

The army official said the NPA rebels numbering to around 30 fighters have abandoned their camp fled to different directions.

He said they have received report that two of the NPA rebels have died.

Gacal said the captured camp have huts that can accommodate more or less 60 people.

The troops have recovered an AK-47 assault rifle and 12 backpacks of personal belongings.
