Zamboanga City Government installs solar street lights

THE local government of Zamboanga City has unveiled the newly installed solar-powered street lights in seven villages in the east coast of this city.

Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco-Salazar led the unveiling of the project Monday, June 6, as she embarked on a series of activities and public engagements to wrap up her nine years of service as city mayor until the end of this month.

Salazar said the project that saw the installation of more than 300 solar street lights is funded by the national government.

The solar street lights of two types—the yellow and white lights—were installed along Maria Clara Lorenzo Lobregat Highway from the village of Guiwan up to Putik, Boalan, Divisoria and Culianan, including Tugbungan.

The solar street lights still illuminate the streets even during blackouts, and will spare the city government from paying power bills, according to Salazar. (SunStar Zamboanga)
