LOCAL authorities said Wednesday, April 1, that another patient under investigation (PUI) has turned out positive, the third confirmed case for coronavirus disease (Covid-19) in Zamboanga City.

Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco-Salazar, chairperson of the Inter-Agency Task Force on Covid-19, described the third confirmed case as a 30-year-old female resident of Tetuan Village, whose result they received Wednesday, April 1, from the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM).

Salazar said the patient is admitted at the government-run Zamboanga City Medical Center (ZCMC).

City Health Officer Dulce Amor Miravite said the patient has no travel history but has an exposure on March 12 with someone who recently traveled to Manila.

Miravite said she manifested signs and symptoms for Covid-19 such as fever and cough, including loose bowel movement (LBM) on March 19.

She said the patient’s health condition is improving and stable with no fever and cough at this time although with comorbidity since she has diabetes.

The health official said the patient was on her 36th week of pregnancy when hospitalized and has delivered via cesarean one day after admission.

She said contact tracing is now being undertaken to determine the people who came into close contact with the third patient.

At present, the three family members and office mates of the patients have no signs and symptoms for Covid-19, she added. (SunStar Zamboanga)
