AN UNIDENTIFIED gunman shot and killed a town official in the province of Zamboanga Sibugay on Friday afternoon, February 26, 2021.

Police Captain Edwin Duco, Police Regional Office-Zamboanga Peninsula information officer, identified the slain town official as Vice Mayor Restituto Calonge of Mabuhay, Zamboanga Sibugay.

Duco said Calonge was seated under a mango tree in front of the municipal hall when shot by the suspect around 3:05 p.m. Friday.

Duco said the gunman fled upon seeing Calonge slumped dead on top of a glass table.

He said the police in Mabuhay town launched an in-depth probe to identify and arrest the suspect. (SunStar Zamboanga)
