SOME 4,500 aspiring athletes have joined this year’s summer sports program of the local government, the city sports division said.

Dr. Cecilia Atilano, City Sports Development officer, said the 4,500 participants have registered to undergo training in their preferred sport event from April 6 to May 11.

Atilano said the 26 sport events will be held in different villages and sport facilities, and will be helmed by 270 trainers.

Atilano added that with the exception of swimming, basketball, and taekwando, registration for the summer sports program is still ongoing and open to students who still want to participate.

Now on its 24th year, the summer sports camp will train children from seven-15 years old in their chosen sport in the course of the program.

Atilano said the program officially kicked off Saturday, April 6, with an opening program at the Joaquin Enriquez Memorial Sports Complex. (Bong Garcia/SunStar Philippines)>/b>
