Hike in judiciary compensation okayed

MANILA – A Malacañang official on Tuesday confirmed the adjustment on the compensation of personnel in the judiciary.

Presidential Development and Strategic Planning Secretary Ricky Carandang said President Benigno Aquino III will witness the signing of a memorandum of agreement (MOA) on Wednesday between the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) and the Judges Association “that will allow the executive to augment the salaries of workers in the judiciary.”

“This is something that is meant to fix the discrepancy between salaried workers in other areas of the bureaucracy and the workers of the judiciary,” Carandang said.

He noted the compensations of employees in the executive are higher than the judicial branch.

The MOA was done in consultation with the Judges Association during an assembly last March 18 where 90 percent of the judges approved the agreement, explained Carandang.

The Palace official left further details to be explained by DBM Secretary Butch Abad. (Jill Beltran/Sunnex)
