In 1995, Karlon N. Rama accompanied a friend to an audition at dyRF. He became instead a cub reporter for the station.

He became a correspondent for Sun.Star Superbalita [Cebu] in 1996. After a few months, he started as a reporter for Sun.Star Cebu.

From late July to early August in 2008, he was part of the pioneer batch of Southeast Asian journalists accepted for the training program, “Reporting on Regional Integration in South East Asia—History, Institutions and Policies of Asean,” sponsored by the International Institute for Journalism of InWEnt.

When not uncovering anomalies in his coverage of the justice beat, Karlon writes about guns in his Sun.Star Cebu column, “Stage Five.”
