1 dead, 1 injured in shooting

A LEADER of Task Force Mapalad (TFM) at Barangay Malubon in Sagay City, Negros Occidental died while another was injured after they were shot by two armed men at the said village Saturday, September 15.

Killed was Eduardo Balayo, 35, of Barangay Poblacion 2.

Wounded was Castigador Prudencio Jr., 48, of Barangay Poblacion 2.

Police records showed the two victims, along with Balayo's wife, were walking on their way home from a public market when they were waylaid and allegedly shot by Raymundo Jimenez, 36, of Barangay Poblacion 2, and another unidentified assailant.

Balayo succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds while Prudencio was hit on his left leg. Both were rushed to a hospital, where Baloyo was declared dead.

Prudencio was transferred to another hospital in Silay City.

Police recovered from the scene the three fired bullets of .45 caliber pistol, and another fired bullet of .9mm caliber. The two gunmen fled.

Police have yet to determine the motive of the incident but both groups have reportedly filed robbery cases against each other due to an alleged land conflict. (GYM)
