TWO persons were killed in a knife fight between two families in Sitio Galera, Barangay Nanunga, Hinigaran, Negros Occidental around 10:30 Monday night, February 17.

The fatalities were identified as Van Flores, 50 years old and Allan Yurag, 38 years old, both residents of the area.

Police Major James Latayon, chief of the Hinigaran Police Station, said initial investigation showed that the Flores and Tanagan families had separate drinking sprees just near each other’s houses.

Latayon said when Van went to the side of the Tanagan family who already finished drinking, a commotion erupted that resulted in his death.

Varry, the brother of Van heard shouts prompting him to go to the house of the Tanagan’s armed with a knife and saw that his brother was already dead.

Another fight erupted that led Varry to stab Yurag, a husband of a member of the Flores.

Latayon added that there was no previous misunderstanding between the two families.

The fight may have been caused by too much drinking among family members, he pointed out.

The police arrested Mark Joseph Tanagan, one of the suspects in the stabbing of Van while another suspect Wilfredo Tanagan managed to escape.

Also arrested was Varry who stabbed Yurag. (TDE)
