2 Negrense sugar leaders endorsed to head SRA

Teresa D. Ellera

NEGROS Occidental Vice Governor Jeffrey Ferrer said yesterday, July 18, that they have endorsed to President Ferdinand " Bong" Marcos Jr. two sugar leaders in the province to be the next administrator of the Sugar Regulatory Administration (SRA).

Ferrer, however, refused to name the two sugar leaders but assured that both are from Negros Occidental.

Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson also confirmed that they are endorsing that the next SRA administrator would come from the province, which is the number one producer of sugar in the country.

The SRA is under the cluster of the Department of Agriculture (DA) which Marcos chose to lead himself.

Meanwhile, Ferrer revealed that while he has asked for the early opening of the sugar mills in the province to address the high price of sugar in the market, the possibility of early milling is being hampered by the rainy season.

“Because it is raining, milling cannot start early,” he said.*
